STEP GAUGE

Track Gauge for NTRAK Module Connecting Tracks

Finding the Right Length Track.

The San Francisco Bay Area NTRAK
Club (Bantrak) has solved the problem of
finding the right length connecting track.
They have established "standard" lengths
and color code these track sections. A special
step gauge is used to determine what
length section is needed and a section with
that color code is laid in place. Other members
follow and quickly fit the section in
place. During module set up it all goes quite
quickly. At tear down the sections should
go back into the proper section of the divided
box they are kept in. Of course this
doesn't always happen, so between times
someone needs to go through and make
sure that the right colors are in the right
pile and that all rail joiners are snug and in
place.
The chart shows the color code and
lengths used. The steps are an arbitrary
.060" which has worked out well for the
club. By holding the gauge against a
square block at the straight end, you can
lay track sections on it and determine the
color code for that section. Once your collection
of track sections is marked with
paint colors and placed in a box with dividers,
the next layout set up should be the
easiest ever.
